I wanted to see if I could create a convincing 3D fire particle effect using only flat billboards in Unity 3D. The small embers are being spawned by a separate particle emitter but the actual fire is created by a single sprite sheet. I think if this was in a 3D space, like a game, and nothing had to go through it it would work pretty well. 

I want to add smoke and heatwaves to these so I'll post a hi-res version once I finish it. but in the meantime here are the two sprite sheets I used. I made the stylized black and white one because it looked pretty cool.
